If you practice yoga, then you probably already know the answer to this question. Arm balances are yoga poses. They help develop strength, body awareness, and focus, but they can be challenging, and even intimidating for the yoga newbie. That’s why here at Urban Vybe, we are offering the Beginner Arm Balance Workshop. You will learn several arm-balance poses including crow, side crow, flying pigeon, running man, revolved running man, grasshopper, and more. The workshop is fun, interactive, and informative. So, if you’re wondering what arm balance is all about, join us and discover a brand new way to elevate your flow!
Some Tips for Better Arm Balances
- Feel lighter: Your pose will feel lighter if you are properly distributing your weight throughout your hands. When entering the pose, when the weight of your body is moving forward, the triad of your hand–metacarpal knuckles of thumb, index finger, and pointer–should bear your weight. Then, when your hands are bearing your weight evenly, use your wrists to resist the weight moving forward in the hands and body. In other words, flex your wrists to push your hands into the floor.
- Your forearms: Your hand should be flat and your forearms should start out perpendicular to the floor. The more they move forward, the more your body can open up into the pose. Another tip is to keep your gaze six to eight inches in front of your hands. This will help keep your weight moving in the right direction.
- Practice: As this technique may be new, take it slow, and practice. Your wrists may feel weak at first, but over time you will build strength.
The workshop is being offered July 26th from 1:00 to 2:30pm. Come and let Caroline help you take your practice to the next level.
