Nutrition is extremely important to the health, effectiveness, and functioning of your body and mind. Think of your body as your vehicle, would you put soda in your car instead of gasoline? No. You make sure that your car remains in good working order by putting in the proper type of fuel. After all, it needs to be in tip-top shape when you use it. You can’t risk a breakdown while traveling to work, or elsewhere. But what about your body? Do you do the same for it? Many of us don’t, but your body is a vehicle, too. It is the vehicle that gets you through life. If you do not keep it properly fortified, it too can break down, or at the very least, how you take care of your body affects how you feel and how effectively you function. It matters how you fuel your body and that’s why nutrition is important.

What is Nutrition

Nutrition is what we feed our bodies as a source of energy to keep it healthy and functioning properly. Good nutrition means providing our bodies with the right amount of nutrients in the right combinations. Essential nutrients our bodies need include:

  • Carbohydrates
  • Fiber
  • Proteins
  • Lipids (healthy fats)
  • Water

Knowledge regarding proper nutrition is important when making choices about foods to eat. Choosing healthy foods helps you maintain optimum health, avoid weight gain, illness, and chronic diseases. A poor diet can impact your quality of life, prevent you from enjoying and living life to its fullest, impede your activities, and prevent you from pursuing your dreams. Nutritional foods can:
