First, what exactly is high-intensity interval training, often referred to as HIIT for short? It is a type of exercise that has been proven to burn fat faster. HIIT involves alternating between all-out fast and hard exercising for a certain amount of time (say 30 seconds) and a slower pace of exercise (say 10 seconds). The high-intensity intervals push your metabolic limits, while the low-intensity intervals give you short periods of recovery time (to rest your body and catch your breath). But, can you perform high-intensity interval training on a stationary bike? You sure can!
Research
Research indicates that the goal of shedding unwanted pounds and reworking your fat-to-muscle ratio is best reached with high-intensity interval training. HIIT exercises
increase your body’s ability to burn fat and have been proven to burn more calories in less time than traditional workouts. In fact, fat burning continues even after you’ve finished exercising which accounts for the fact that, according to the American College of Sports Medicine, these types of workouts burn from six to 15 percent more calories in comparison to other workouts.
