Our Urban Vybe Fall Yoga Certifications are right around the corner. I’m sure you’ve seen our flyers and pictures from last years group, or you’ve heard our teachers mention the training in class. If you’ve been practicing yoga for years, or if you are just getting started on your yoga journey, here are 7 reasons why you should participate in Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) – even if you have no interest to teach!

     1. Study Yoga on a Deeper Level

So, you’ve been practicing yoga and love it! But where did it come from? What does it all mean? In YTT, you’ll discover how deeply rooted the practice of yoga is, what it’s intended for, and how it’s evolved over the years. Yoga is like an ocean ~ it’s deep and rich, powerful, teeming with life, and full of wisdom. It’s magical! You don’t have to travel to india to learn about it or study under a guru. One of the most beautiful things about yoga is that it’s everywhere. You can find yoga in virtually every corner of the world. The practice and philosophies are universal, transcending race, ethnicity, age, gender, physical limitations, and religious affiliation. The best part is that you can study yoga right here in Flower Mound, Texas with some of the most highly trained and experienced yoga teachers!

     2.  Align and Expand Your Practice

You know the asanas (poses), the pranayamas (breathing exercises), you may even have your Ommm down, but is there room for growth? Always! As you learn how to teach yoga to others, you develop a greater understanding of the many unique differences in our bodies. And, as you notice through the required daily practice and meditation, your own body awareness increases and you begin to tap into the innate wisdom that has been lying dormant within you. Applying this wealth of knowledge and understanding of your own individual body alignment, changes and refines your practice, expanding it, and moving it forward. Poses that were once out of reach become attainable and you find new levels of inner strength, power, and grit! The by-product of all this inner work ~ unconditional love, acceptance, and appreciation for your uniquely beautiful body along all it’s quirks and imperfections. Yoga also teaches us that the body and mind are intricately connected. We soon discover that when our bodies become more aligned, so do our minds.

      3.  Open Your Mind

Absolutely ~ YES! Be prepared to open that noggin of yours and fill it up with an incredible amount of knowledge about all things yoga. Not just the physical practice, but the mental and emotional aspects as well. The content of what you’ll be studying is designed to expand your mind, challenge your limiting beliefs, and open up your conscious awareness on a much deeper level then you could ever imagine. Meditation and/or mindfulness is one of the foundations to the practice of yoga, so be prepared to take a trip into the depths of your mind. A trip that often reveals to us the darker, hidden aspects about us that we intentionally suppress. These deeply emotional experiences profoundly affect our relationships with ourselves and others, robbing us of the love, joy, and connections we so desperately desire. As you begin to study the spiritual philosophies of yoga, you learn how to better understand, process, and accept these diverse emotions and life experiences, which have shaped you into the person you are today. This mind/body experience that we call yoga can be a such a profoundly important tool for the growth and evolution of your spirit ~ a big part of the yoga journey. You will start to notice an undeniable transformational shift within you as a human being, which is enough of a reason as any to participate.

   4. Make Life-Long Friendships

Yoga teacher training connects us. You’ll soon find that your fellow YTT Tribe members quickly become more like a family to you. Most students enter into the training as strangers and by graduation, have become life-long friends. The deep, soulful connections you make in YTT are without a doubt, some of the most memorable aspects about it. There is no other experience quite like going through a training. Sharing with others the often painful personal struggles, the doubts and fears, the experience of being totally raw and honest, along with periods of abundant joy, excitement, and “Aha” moments, forges a bond that lasts a lifetime.

    5. Challenge Yourself

The many months of yoga training are extremely rewarding – but also challenging. The curriculum is packed with an incredible amount of knowledge and wisdom. You often find that you can quickly suffer from information overload! The books, the movies, the modules, observations, homework, etc. can be overwhelming. It’s definitely hard work just keeping up! But as you progress through each week, you find that your passion for yoga deepens and you feel like a sponge just soaking up all the sweet yoga goodness. You look forward to each meeting, you start believing in yourself, and you feel a strong sense of satisfaction and accomplishment from all your hard work. In the end, YTT will leave you with the glow of growth, as you stretch your body and mind to their limits. Challenge = Change, and the change happens inside and out.

    6. Share Yoga and Impact Others

Whether your intention is to teach yoga after the training or not, you will graduate with a deep desire to share your knowledge with others in an organic way. To use it positively to impact the lives of others. It may be in the yoga classes that you teach or perhaps with your spouse, family, or close friends. Many of the tools taught in YTT can be used in everyday life, such as at work or in your relationships. Others, as well as yourself can greatly benefit from your newly discovered sense of peace and understanding. Helping and serving others is what we were put on this planet to do. Each day, the choices we make impact the direction of our lives as well as the lives of others. We can choose to live a life of “Service to Self” or “Service to Others”. Yoga connects us to our true self, our spirit. It opens our hearts and awakens us to this fact. It helps answer the questions: “Why am I here?” & “What is my purpose?” It becomes a fantastic stepping stone toward becoming less self-absorbed, and more loving and compassionate toward others.
